DIFFICULTY: Medium
TIME CONSUMED: approx. 1 hour CHANGES MADE: I cut the recipe in thirds
WOULD I MAKE THIS AGAIN? YES!
Results: So I love the smell of clean laundry! However, I hate the cost of laundry detergent, and we go through it so fast! One of my favorite things about this recipe was the smell of the Fels-Naptha soap, it literally smells like clean. Also, when the math is done, it comes out to approximatley 1 cent per load of laundry, not sure about you, but I LOVE the sound of that! I did cut the recipe into thirds; I didn’t want to make a bunch of it in case I did not like it. I also didn’t have a 2 or 5 gallon bucket. It gets our clothes clean, and they smell clean.
THINGS I MAY DO DIFFERENTLY: I will probably still add fabric softner, not because the detergent didn’t make my clothes soft, I just love the smell of it!
BE WARNED: The texture is a little different, so don’t let that freak you out. It also does not bubble, in detergents bought at the store, that is added for your benefit, but doesn’t benefit the laundry. Also, MAKE SURE you let the Fels-naptha melt!

You should talk to Ruth...she's made her own detergent for some time now because of various allergies. I'm not sure if she makes it the same way you did but she would probably like comparing notes!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love that you are doing a blog about the pinterest stuff you're trying out!
Thanks Naomi! I LOVE Pinterest, but then again, i think all of our family has a crafter/creative girl inside! I will message ruth, I would love her input!
